The Springhill Board of Governors is a group of dedicated people devoted to creating and supporting extraordinary quality of care as well as choices of services and social opportunities for all residents. They also have oversight of general campus operations and promote fundraising in conjunction with Asbury Foundation.
Background: Graduated from Muhlenberg College with a degree in mathematics.
Worked: Served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Employed by General Electric Co., Erie, for 38 years, holding early positions in accounting and auditing. Oversaw installation of first computer in the Erie plant and handled information technology. Served five years on the board of directors of the School District of Erie, and 20 years a volunteer with SCORE, an organization designed to help small business entrepreneurs. Currently active on the finance committee of the Glenwood United Methodist Church, and as a tax advisor for low-income and senior church members.

Worked: Extensive experience in the banking industry with past experience at FNB Corporation, PNC Bank, National City Bank, Citizens Bank and currently at ErieBank. Professional development includes: Leadership Erie – Gannon University, Stonier Graduate School of Banking – University of Delaware and Central Atlantic School of Commercial Lending – Bucknell University.

Background: Holds a bachelor of science in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska.
Worked: long time treasurer and board member of Lutheran Home for the Aged, Hamot Medical Center and Springhill Senior Living Community. Mr. Tonjes retired as the Manager of Financial Operations of Transportation Business for the General Electric Company in 1990. Previously, he served for many years as General Manager of the DC Motor and Generator Business for General Electric.

Background: Graduated from Stanford University in 1969. Joined Eriez in 1971 as Licensee Coordinator, after serving with the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration in Washington. Since joining Eriez, Merwin has served as Export Sales Manager 1972-74, General Manager Eriez International Division 1974-80, and Vice President International 1980-86.
Volunteered: Member of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration, a Trustee and Director of the Erie Metropolitan YMCA, a Corporator of the Hamot Health Foundation" and serves on the Board of Fellows of Penn State-Erie.
Current Position: Chairman of Eriez Magnetics
Background: Business and Finance degree from California State University at Long Beach, California.
Worked: Director for Asbury Atlantic, the operational board for Asbury Communities which operates seven continuing care retirement centers in MD and PA including Springhill in Erie, Board of Governors Springhill, Chair of the First United Methodist Church Council, Treasurer for Methodist Towers Inc., a member of the Estate Planning Council of Erie, Independent Council on Aging, Erie Kiwanis Club, PA Masons, the Erie Philharmonic Chorus, and the First United Methodist Church choir.

Volunteered: Member of Erie UPMC Hamot Hospital Board of Corporators. Vice Chair of the Hamot Second Century Fund, the philanthropic arm of UPMC Hamot. Member of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church.

Worked: Twenty-five year veteran of the FBI. Has served on the board of directors of several national intelligence and law enforcement associations and is a founder and chairman emeritus of the International Association for Intelligence Education. In 2001 the Society of Competitive Intelligence Professionals presented him with its highest recognition, the Meritorious Award, and in 2006 he received a lifetime achievement award for his work in open-source intelligence.
Current Position: Executive Director of the Mercyhurst College Institute for Intelligence Studies
Background: Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Albright College, Reading, PA in 1971; Masters of Social Work in 1982 and Masters in Public Health in Healthcare Administration in 1984 from the University of Pittsburgh.
Worked: Came to RPCI after serving for three years as the Chief Executive Officer of the Regional Cancer Center in Erie, PA. She also has served as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (1994-2001) and Vice President of Operations and Chief Operating Officer of Affiliate Corporations (1991-1994) at the Hamot Health Foundation, a 460 bed tertiary medical center in Erie, PA.
Current Position: Chief Operating Officer, Clinical Services & Regional Affiliations at Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI)
Ms. McClure has more than 30 years of experience, having practiced previously in the Erie firm of McClure & Miller, LLP. She served in numerous leadership capacities of the Erie County Bar Association, the Erie County Bar Foundation and the Pennsylvania Bar Foundation. Her practice includes estate planning, representation of borrowers or lenders in business transactions, general business counsel, and municipal law.
