Supports Creation of Music Therapy Program for Community's Residents with Memory Loss

Springhill is pleased to announce that it has been selected to receive a year of support to establish a Music & Memory program for residents affected by memory loss from the Music & Memory Foundation.

A touching story by Springhill Move-In Coordinator Jill Mannino was recently featured in a Facebook campaign for Alive Inside, an award-winning film about the Music & Memory program. View a short video of Jill's reaction to the Alive Inside award. Her post discussed her journey with her father through his memory loss, the important role music played through that process and her desire to bring Music & Memory to Springhill. Her story was the grand prize winner and brings a full year of support from the creators of Music & Memory, which will be used to launch the Dwayne D. Trautman Music & Memory Program.

Music & Memory trains health professionals who work with older persons to utilize iPod music therapy. Through the program, caregivers  work with family members to create a personalized playlist for each resident. According to Music & Memory founder, Dan Cohen, "these musical favorites tap deep memories not lost to dementia and can bring residents and clients back to life, enabling them to feel like themselves again, to converse, socialize and stay present."

Springhill will be the third Asbury community to establish a Music & Memory program for residents. Bethany Village, located in Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Asbury Methodist Village, in Gaithersburg, Md., also utilize this program.
